Australian Camp Trek — Frequently Asked Questions

Can young children do this trek?
Yes, children as young as 5 can complete this trek comfortably. The walking is short (2-3 hours per day), the trails are well-maintained, and the teahouses are comfortable. We have guided families with toddlers in carriers on this route.
Is this trek too easy for fit adults?
The Australian Camp trek is designed for ease and accessibility. If you are fit and want more challenge, consider combining it with an extension to Pothana or choose the Poon Hill or Mardi Himal trek instead. That said, the mountain views from Australian Camp are genuinely world-class regardless of the difficulty.
What are the teahouses like?
The teahouses on this route are among the most comfortable in Nepal. Most have private rooms with attached bathrooms, hot showers, charging points, and Wi-Fi. The food quality is good with diverse menus.
Can I do this as a day hike?
Technically yes — you could hike to Australian Camp and back in one long day. But we strongly recommend the 2 or 3 day version. The sunrise from Australian Camp is the highlight, and the relaxed pace through Dhampus is a much richer experience than rushing.
What is the weather like?
At 2,060m, Australian Camp has pleasant weather most of the year. Daytime temperatures range from 15-25 degrees Celsius in spring and autumn. Nights can be cool (5-10 degrees). The monsoon months (June-August) are wet and cloudy. October to May is ideal.
